Lots of updates have landed in Autostrek, just in time for its first anniversary!
The biggest change is the new Visual Build Generator. You now design your building around a simplified visual model, making it much easier to understand how your choices fit together. Adjust the building’s proportions, place windows and doors, add dormers, and draw simple floor plans, all within the same workspace. You can also design two-storey buildings, with an additional loft level when using compatible A-frame trusses.
The workflow is simple: explore the settings, adjust your layout and lumber dimensions, and generate the building when you’re happy with the design. The building components follow your parameters, giving you flexibility to work with different timber sizes and construction settings.
You can return to the generator to refine your latest design and keep alternatives using Drafts & variants. Remember to save your .strek project to retain those designs between sessions. Direct editing in the 3D model is still available, but changes to the overall building are usually easier to manage in the generator. Regenerating replaces the current model, so save a project copy if you want to preserve manual 3D edits.
The window and door libraries have also expanded, with more styles, customizable glazing patterns and larger glazed facades. The growing furniture and interior library helps you plan how rooms will work. These symbols currently appear in the floor plan; adding them to the generated 3D model is in development.
Section planes make it easier to look inside a building and inspect its framing, floors and roof construction.
Custom Solid has been completely rebuilt. It offers much more capable modeling tools, including lofting with rails, sweeps, patterns and more, with export options for 3D printing. I’ll share a closer look at these features soon.
There are also performance improvements, refinements to dormer construction (still need more work (it's a complex design to generate), clearer interfaces and many smaller fixes throughout the app.
One year ago, Autostrek started as a small tool for sheds and garages. It’s now growing into a tool for more complex buildings and custom 3D parts, while keeping the straightforward workflow that makes it approachable for beginners.
Take a closer look at the new Visual Build Generator. Just launch Autostrek form your dashboard and start building.
